1999-2002 Rodeo (UE) Rear Beverage Holder Swing Arm Loose

ISSUE DATE: SEPTEMBER, 2002

Affected Vehicles
1999-2002 Rodeo (UE) equipped with rear beverage holder.

Service Information

Condition:

On affected vehicles, owners may complain that the rear beverage holder swing arm will not stay in an open or closed position because the detents do not hold.

Possible Cause:

One or both of the metal detent clips are out of place or missing.

Correction:

Check for proper installation of both detent clips, if missing, replace detent clip (Part Number: 8-97212-275-0).

Service Procedure

1. With parking brake applied remove the rear console assembly.





2. Remove the two screws inside the console (Figure 1).

3. Pull up the console sides and detach the retaining clips (Figure 2 shown above)

4. Disconnect the power Mode/Winter Mode switch (A/T models only).





5. Remove the ashtray/rear beverage holder assembly from the rear console assembly (Figure 3).

6. Open the beverage holder lid and move the beverage holder swing arm to a position halfway between open and closed.





7. Re-install any loose detent clips securely in place (Figure 4).

8. If a detent clip is missing install a new one (part number: 8-97212-275-0).

Note:
Check to be sure both detent clips are securely installed prior to reassembly of the console.

9. Install the ashtray/beverage holder assembly to the rear of the console.

10. Reinstall the rear console assembly (Note: On A/T models be sure to reconnect the Power Mode/Winter mode switch).

11. Open and close the rear beverage holder swing arm several times to be the detents hold.
