AFFECTED VEHICLES

1998-2000 Rodeo (UE) models

SERVICE INFORMATION

Condition:

Some owners may comment on windshield washer fluid leak.

Correction:

To correct this condition, apply sealant around filler port grommet.

1. Open hood, install prop rod and fender protector.

2. Actuate washer switch on the steering column until washer fluid is 1/2 inch below filler port grommet.

3. Remove filler neck bracket screw (figure 1).

4. Remove filler neck from washer tank (figure 2).

5. Remove grommet from washer tank (figure 1).

6. Clean and dry washer tank surface.

7. Clean and dry grommet.

8. Cut 2 inches of Butyl tape (part # 2-90042-500-0), and stretch/roll butyl to reduce diameter of butyl tape to approximately 4 mm, then wrap butyl around grommet (figure 3).

NOTE:
One roll of Butyl tape should service 100 washer tank repairs.

9. Install grommet with butyl to washer tank immediately after application of butyl and massage into place (This will ensure a tight seal, and will avoid washer fluid leakage) (figure 4).

IMPORTANT:
Inspect the surfaces surrounding grommet to ensure that the grommet is completely seated on the washer tank surface.

10. Apply soapy water on the filler neck to enable a smoother installation into the grommet hole.

11. Install filler neck into washer tank and tighten bracket screw.

12. Refill washer tank with windshield washer fluid to MAX line on filler neck, and verify that no leakage exists.
