Headlamp: Description and Operation

Low Beam Operation
With the headlight switch in HEAD and the dimmer/passenger switch in LO, the headlight switch provides ground to the lighting relay, and the dimmer/passing switch provides ground for the low beam filaments. The lighting relay then energizes and provides battery voltage to the headlights, and the low beams come ON.

High Beam Operation
With the headlight switch in HEAD and the dimmer/passenger switch in HI, the headlight switch provides ground to the lighting relay, and the dimmer/passing switch provides ground for the high beam filaments. The lighting relay then energizes and provides battery voltage to the headlights, and the high beams come ON.
Battery voltage is also applied to the high beam indicator, and the high beam indicator light comes on to remind the driver that the high beams are ON.

Flash-To-Pass Operation
The flash-to-pass feature works with the headlight switch in OFF, PARK, or HEAD (low beams). With the passing switch ON, ground is provided for both the high and low beam filaments and the lighting relay. The lighting relay energizes and applies battery voltage to the headlights and to the high beam indicator light and the high and low beams come ON. The high beam indicator also flashes during the flash-to-pass operation. The flash-to-pass function has no effect if the high beams are already ON.
