Heated Glass Element: Description and Operation

Voltage is applied at all times through fuse C-17 to the rear window defogger relay. With the ignition switch in ON or START, voltage is applied through fuse C-4 to the rear window defogger switch and the rear window defogger relay coil.

When you push the rear window defogger switch, voltage is detected at connector A, pin 14 of the alarm and relay control unit, and then ground is provided at connector B, pin 6 for the rear window defogger relay coil and the rear "ON" indicator light. The rear window defogger relay energizes and the relay contact closes, applying battery voltage to the rear window defogger The indicator light comes on and the rear window defogger heats the rear window to remove any fog from the glass. The rear window defogger will turn OFFautomatically after approximately 30 minutes. It will also turn OFF if the ignition switch is turned to OFF or if the rear defogger switch is pressed again.
