Body - Tailgate Check Arm Squeaking Sound

1999 VEHICROSS (VX) TAILGATE CHECK ARM SQUEAKING SOUND

AFFECTED VEHICLES
Some 1999 VehiCROSS (VX) models

SERVICE INFORMATION

Condition:

Tailgate check arm may emit a squeaking sound whenever the tailgate is moved to the open or closed position.

Correction:

To correct the squeaking condition, use the procedure outlined in this bulletin.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Open the tailgate as far as possible.





2. Using a clean rag, remove the factory-applied grease from top and bottom surfaces of tailgate check arm. (Figure 1)

NOTE
Do not use a degreaser. Simply wipe the grease off with a cloth.

3. To protect from over-spray, cover the surrounding areas of the check arm with a rag or equivalent.

NOTE
Pay special attention to the bumper cladding, immediately below, and the interior panels, adjacent to the check arm.





4. Prepare spray can of * ThreeBond Detail Engine Gloss (Figure 2) by shaking well.

IMPORTANT
During the next step, avoid over-spraying Engine Gloss onto nearby trim panels.

5. Hold can about 2-3 inches from the check arm and apply Engine Gloss. Be sure to coat both the top and bottom surfaces of check arm.

6. Allow check arm to air dry for at least 6 minuets. Do not close the tailgate before the Engine Gloss is completely dry.

NOTE:
If the check arm is still tacky to the touch after 6 minutes, allow additional drying time until the coating has fully dried and hardened.

PARTS INFORMATION

* No service parts required.

* One 10 oz. aerosol can of ThreeBond Detail Engine Gloss (AIPDN Part Number 2-90531-910-0) that is applied to the check arm will service approximately 50 to 75 vehicle, when used for this repair. Use sublet code B1 on the warranty claim for maximum reimbursement of $1.00 to cover the cost of material used during this repair.
