Molding/Nameplate Replacement - Exterior Trim




Removal Procedure

1. Heat the molding using a heat gun. Hold the heat gun approximately 152 mm (6 inches) from surface. Apply heat using a circular motion for about 30 seconds.

IMPORTANT: Be careful not to damage the paint

2. Peel the molding from the panel surface using a flat-bladed tool.
3. Remove all adhesive from the body panel and the back of the molding using a 3M(TM) scotch brite molding adhesive remover disk 3M(TM) P/N 07501 or equivalent.
4. Clean the body panel using Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha.




Installation Procedure

IMPORTANT: Apply emblems in an environment that is free from dust or other dirt that could come in contact with the sticky backing. This may cause improper adhesion.

1. Clean the area where the molding or the emblem will be mounted. Use a suitable solvent, such as mixture of 50 percent alcohol and 50 percent water or an equivalent mixture, in order to clean the areas.
2. Dry the areas thoroughly.
3. Heat the area to a temperature of 27 - 41 °C (80 - 105 °F).
4. Ensure that the temperature of the moldings is within 29 - 32 °C (85 - 90 °F). Place the moldings or the emblem, with the adhesive side down, on a heated surface or use a heat gun or a heat lamp.
5. Remove the protective liner from the back of the molding or the emblem.
6. Apply the molding to the body surface.
7. Apply the rear emblem to the body surface.
8. Apply the front emblem to the body surface.
9. Apply equal pressure along the molding or the emblem in order to uniformly bond the item to the body surface.
