Timing Cover: Service and Repair
Removal Procedure1. Remove the crankshaft pulley and hub.
2. Remove the drive belt tensioner.
3. Remove the two nuts at the front of the oil pan.
4. Remove the studs for the engine front cover to the oil pan.
5. Remove the engine front cover.
Important: Inspect the engine front cover for warping or damage. Replace if needed.
6. Clean all sealing surfaces.
Installation Procedure

- J35468 Oil Seal Installer
1. Install the crankshaft front oil seal using the following procedure.
1. Lubricate the seal lips with engine oil.
2. Use the J35468 and a hammer in order to install the seal.
3. Apply a 10 mm (1/8 inch) wide, by 5 mm (3/16 inch) thick bead of RTV sealer to the oil pan to the area where the oil pan and the engine front cover meet.
4. Install the engine front cover over the dowel pins in the engine block.
5. Install the engine front cover bolts.
Tighten the engine front cover bolts to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).
6. Install the studs for the oil pan in the engine front cover.
Tighten the studs to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).
7. Install the oil pan nuts on the studs.
Tighten the oil pan nuts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
8. Install the crankshaft balancer hub and the crankshaft pulley.
9. Install the drive belt tensioner.
