Fan Clutch: Service and Repair

- J41240 Fan Clutch Wrench


Removal Procedure
1. Remove the upper fan shroud.

Important: To maintain a balanced fan assembly, align the yellow paint mark on the fan clutch hub with the yellow paint mark on the water pump hub.





2. Remove the fan clutch from the coolant pump using J41240.
1. Install the J41240-1 into the water pump access holes.
2. With the J41240-2 secure on the fan clutch nut, hold the J41240-1 firmly in place while turning the J41240-2 counter-clockwise.
3. Remove the fan and the fan clutch as an assembly.





4. Remove the fan to fan clutch mounting bolts.
5. Remove the fan from the clutch.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





1. Install the fan to the fan clutch mounting bolts.
Tighten the mounting bolts to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).





2. Install the fan clutch to the coolant pump pulley using the J41240.
3. Install the upper fan shroud.
