INSUFFICIENT COOLING DURING A/C OPERATION

AFFECTED VEHICLES

All 1998 - 2000 Rodeo (UE) models

SERVICE INFORMATION

Insufficient or poor cooling, during maximum A/C operation has been reported on 1998 - 2000 Rodeo (UE) vehicles. The complaint of insufficient cooling may be related to heated air mixing with refrigerated air, while the temperature knob is in the "FULL COLD" position (the Temperature Door Lever is closed at this position). The Air Mix Door and the Temperature Door Lever must be inspected at the "FULL COLD" (closed) position. To properly determine if the Air Mix Door and the Temperature Door Lever is in the "FULL COLD." (closed) position, remove the glove box and perform the following steps:

1. Position the Temperature Control Knob to "FULL COLD."

2. Remove the Temperature Control Cable housing from the Retention Clip (located on the heater case left of the evaporator), by pressing down on the left side of the clip (figures 1 and 2).

3. With one finger firmly pushing upon the Temperature Door Lever, re-position the Temperature Control Cable housing back in the Retention Clip.

4. The Temperature Control Cable housing must be "set" into the Retention Clip. This is accomplished by applying upward pressure on the left side of the Retention Clip.

NOTE:
This simple procedure should be performed if normal HI and LO side gauge pressures are noted.

Verify the results:
The heated air mix door can be heard closing right before the Temperature Control Knob reaches the end of its movement to the "FULL COLD" position.
