ISSUE DATE:

GROUP:
EMISSIONS
CARB OBD II EVAPORATIVE LEAK DIAGNOSIS REGULATION
EMISSIONS CAMPAIGN 01E-001
CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
Number O1E-001 has been assigned to this campaign. This number will appear on all communications and documentation of any nature dealing with the campaign.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
2001 Rodeo (UE) and Rodeo Sport (UA) vehicles with 2.2L HEC Engine
SERVICE INFORMATION
CONDITION
It has been discovered that affected vehicles equipped with the HEC engine do not meet the CARB and EPA OBD II requirements for evaporative leak diagnosis. It is possible the OBD II evaporative leak detection monitor may "time-out" prior to completing the diagnostic. If the diagnostic "times-out" prematurely, the OBD II evaporative leak detection monitor may terminate prior to completing the intended diagnostic, and therefore may not detect a leak in the evaporative system.
CORRECTION
To correct this condition, Isuzu dealers will install a new OBD II calibration.
NOTE:
California dealers must issue a "Proof of Correction Certificate" to Isuzu owners. Advise the Isuzu owner to keep the certificate as the California Deparment of Motor Vehicles may ask for proof of this campaign completion before renewal of the registration.
IMPORTANT:
Dealers must fill out every field on the Proof of Correction Certificate.
DEALER RESPONSIBILITY
Isuzu dealers must service all affected vehicles at no charge to the owner, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership.
Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is in a dealer's vehicle inventory, or arrives at a dealership for service, the dealer must take the necessary steps to ensure that this campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
All unsold new vehicles in dealer's possession and subject to this campaign must be held and repaired per the service procedure in this Campaign Bulletin customers take possession of their vehicles. American Isuzu Motors Inc. (AIMI) will send a notification letter to owners of affected vehicles already retailed (See Enclosed Copy). Dealers should follow up with vehicle owners by sending a Campaign Reminder Notice (AIMI SVCF-1052) to all vehicle owners listed in the AIMI Campaign Report AWS 123-1A. Dealers may obtain these postcards from their Regional Office.

CALIFORNIA VEHICLES ONLY
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) requires vehicle emission recalls to be completed prior to California registration renewal. Uncorrected emission recalls will result in the inability for affected owners to renew their California vehicle registration.
At the time of emission campaign completion, all California dealers must issue a completed "Proof of Correction Certificate" (Figure 9) to the vehicle owner.
