Fuel Filter: Service and Repair
Fuel Filter ReplacementImportant: Inspect the fuel tank internally and clean the fuel tank if you find a restricted fuel filter.
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Remove the fuel tank shield bolts and shield, if equipped.
4. Clean all the fuel filter connections and the surrounding areas before disconnecting the fuel lines in order to prevent possible contamination of the fuel system.
5. Disconnect the quick connect fittings at the fuel filter.
6. Remove the fuel filter bracket screw.
7. Cap the fuel pipes in order to prevent possible fuel system contamination.
8. Remove the fuel filter from the bracket.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the fuel filter to the bracket.
2. Remove the caps from the fuel pipes.
3. Install the fuel filter bracket screw.
Tighten the screws to ......................................12 N.m (106 lb in).
4. Disconnect the quick connect fittings at the fuel filter.
5. Install the fuel tank shield and bolts, if equipped.
Tighten the bolts to ......................................25 N.m (18 lb ft).
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Tighten the fuel fill cap.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
9. Use the following procedure in order to inspect for leaks:
9.1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF, for 2 seconds.
9.2. Turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds.
9.3. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
9.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
