TITLE: Engine is Hard to Start after Filling the Fuel Tank

APPLIES TO: 03-05 Ascender 4.2L

Condition:

On rare occasions, an extended crank or hard to start condition may be experienced after fueling the vehicle. A SES light with EVAP DTCs may or may not be experienced with this condition. This may be the result of an EVAP purge valve that is not fully seated in the closed position with the engine off.

Correction:

If the normal diagnostics do not isolate the cause of this concern, apply vacuum to either side of the EVAP purge valve using a handheld vacuum pump while the engine is off to determine if it holds vacuum. If the EVAP purge valve does not hold vacuum, replace the EVAP purge valve, which is on the left side of the engine.
