Steering Column Jacket Replacement (Standard Column)

Removal Procedure





1. Caution: Refer to in SIR Caution in Service Precautions.

Disable the SIR system.
2. Remove the steering wheel from the column.
3. Remove the ignition switch and lock housing assembly.
4. Remove the steering column from the vehicle.
5. If necessary, remove the linear shift assembly.
6. Remove the lower shaft bearing assembly.





7. Remove the steering shaft assembly (1) from the steering column support assembly (2) and the steering column jacket assembly (3).





8. Remove the 4 TORX head screws (1) from the steering column support assembly (2).
9. Discard the 4 TORX head screws (1).
10. Remove the steering column support assembly (2) from the steering column jacket assembly (3).

Installation Procedure





1. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Attach the steering column support assembly (2) to the steering column jacket assembly (3) with 4 TORX head screws (1).
^ Tighten the screws to 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).





2. Install the steering shaft assembly (1) into the steering column support assembly (2).





3. Install the lower shaft bearing assembly.
4. If necessary, install the linear shift assembly.
5. Install the steering column into the vehicle.
6. Install the ignition switch and lock housing assembly.
7. Install the steering wheel onto the steering column.
8. Enable the SIR system.
