Service Information

This bulletin is being revised to correct the labor operation in the Warranty Claim Information section.

Condition:

Some customers may comment on a wind noise or high pitched whistle noise heard from the front of the vehicle while driving at highway speeds.

Possible Cause:

This condition may be caused by a rush of air flowing over the front grille into a gap found in the lower portion of the front park turn signal lamp housing and lens.

Correction:

Apply adhesive shim stock.

1. Use masking tape to tape off the gap (1) between the grille and the lower left and right park turn signal lens. Road test the vehicle and determine the source of the wind noise.

^ If the park turn signal lamp is not the source of the wind noise continue to diagnose and repair the wind noise. Refer to Interior and Exterior Wind noise in the Service Manual.

^ If the wind noise is eliminated return to the shop and proceed to Step 2.

2. Open the hood.

3. Disconnect the front park turn signal lamp electrical connector (1) from the front wiring harness connector. Then remove the lamp assembly by using a screwdriver to release the outboard retaining clip (2) from the front inner fender.

4. Place the park turn signal lamp assembly with the bottom side up on a work bench.

5. Clean the center edge (1) of the park turn signal lamp where the housing meets the lens with denatured alcohol.

6. Cut a piece of Kent Automotive(R) Adhesive Shim Stock P/N 46480 or equivalent to 6 mm (1/4 in) width by 47 cm (18-1/2 in) length.

7. Apply the adhesive shim stock (1) to the bottom side of the park turn signal lamp around the entire center edge where the housing meets the lens.

8. Install the park turn signal lamp to the vehicle by inserting the two retaining tabs (1) toward the center of the grille assembly. Then seat the park turn signal lamp outboard retaining clip by pushing the lamp assembly back into the front inner fender.

9. Connect the park turn signal lamp electrical connector to the front wiring harness connector.

10. Repeat steps 2-9 for the opposite front park turn signal lamp.

11. Close the hood.

12. Verify that the condition is fixed.
