Keyless Entry Transmitter: Testing and Inspection

Transmitter Programming

Important: There are 2 programming methods available using the scan tool. No other methods should be used. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the correct vehicle. Prior to using these methods, verify that each fob transmitter is operating properly by using the J43241 Keyless Entry Tester.

Method 1 - Program All Transmitters

You must have access to all vehicle key fob transmitters during this procedure. Once placed into program mode, previously programmed transmitters will be erased from memory upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter. Up to 4 transmitters can be programmed.

1. Close the rear lift gate.
2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF
3. Use the scan tool in order to access the Lift Gate Module (LGM) Special Function: Program All Key Fobs.
4. Follow the directions on the scan tool in order to program the transmitters. Select "Start" on the scan tool to enter the program mode.
5. As each fob is successfully programmed, the scan tool will show how many fobs have been placed into memory.
6. When all transmitters are programmed, exit the program mode by selecting "Stop" on the scan tool. Note: the vehicle will not respond to the fob transmitters until the program mode is exited.
7. Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation. Note: The rear lift gate must be closed for the rear lock to operate.
8. If any fob transmitter fails to program or fails to work after programming, use the J43241 to diagnose.

Method 2 - Program Individual Key Fob

1. Install a scan tool.
2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
3. Use the scan tool in order to access the Lift Gate Module (LGM) Special Function: Program Key Fobs menu.
4. Select "Program additional Key Fob" on the scan tool.
5. Follow the directions on the scan tool in order to program the transmitter.
6. Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.
