Air Spring Leveling Sensor Replacement

Air Spring Leveling Sensor Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: A sudden release of pressure may cause personal injury or damage to the vehicle. The air suspension is under pressure until the air supply lines are disconnected.

Important: Use the following precautions when servicing the air suspension system:

- Wear gloves, ear protection, eye protection.

- Wrap a clean cloth around the air supply lines

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
2. Position the rear axle to the specified D-height plus an additional 25-35 MM (.98-1.38 in). Refer to Trim Height Specifications.
3. Support the body in position.
4. Turn ON the ignition, engine OFF for approximately. 2 minutes to partially de-pressurize the rear air springs.
5. After partial pressurization is complete, turn OFF the ignition.
6. Remove the air suspension fuse.
7. Remove the rear tire and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

Important: A D-height block can be used to determine the D-height position. Create a D-height measurement gauge, using metal stock. Cut a block to 20 mm (.79 in) X 30 mm (1.81 in) X the correct D trim height specification. For the correct D height specification, refer to Trim Height Specifications.

8. With the aid of an assistant, Position the correct D-height gauge blocks between the axle housing tube and the frame rail bracket, center of hole on each side (2).
9. Raise the rear axle toward the frame until the block contacts both rear axle housing tube and body rail (2).

10. Disconnect the air spring level sensor link from the upper control arm.
11. Disconnect the air spring level sensor electrical connector.

12. Remove the air spring level sensor to the frame mounting bolts.
13. Remove the air spring level sensor from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the air spring level sensor link to the upper control arm.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

Important: Do not remove the air spring level sensor locating pin until the air spring level sensor has been properly aligned and the proper D height has been measured and maintained. Refer to Trim Height Specifications.

2. Install the air spring level sensor to the frame mounting bolts.

Tighten the air spring level sensor to the frame mounting bolts to 8 N.m (71 lb in).

3. Connect the air spring level sensor electrical connector.

Notice: Failure to remove the air suspension auto level control sensor locating pin before the rear axle support is removed will cause damage to the air suspension auto level control sensor.

4. Remove the air spring level sensor locating pin.
5. Remove the rear axle support.
6. Install the rear tire and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Install the air suspension system fuse.
9. Start the vehicle and run for approximately 1 minute to ensure that the air spring leveling system is functioning properly.
10. Check the D height. Refer to Trim Height Inspection.
