Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Testing and Inspection
Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) SensorInspection
The ECT sensor is a variable resistor and it measures the temperature of the engine coolant. When the ECT sensor is cold, the sensor resistance is high. When the engine coolant temperature increases, the sensor resistance decreases.
- Immerse the ECT sensor into water, and check if the resistance value matches with the chart.
NOTE:
- Take care not to allow water to get into the terminal.
Wipe off the water splash on the sensor after inspection.
- If the result of the inspection is unsatisfactory, replace it.
