Steering Column Jacket Replacement (Standard Column)

Removal Procedure





Caution: Refer to in SIR Caution.

1. Disable the SIR system.
2. Remove the steering wheel from the column.
3. Remove the ignition switch and lock housing assembly. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement.
4. Remove the steering column from the vehicle.
5. If necessary, remove the linear shift assembly.
6. Remove the lower shaft bearing assembly.




7. Remove the steering shaft assembly (1) from the steering column support assembly (2) and the steering column jacket assembly (3).




8. Remove the 4 TORX(R) head screws (1) from the steering column support assembly (2).
9. Discard the 4 TORX(R) head screws (1).
10. Remove the steering column support assembly (2) from the steering column jacket assembly (3).

Installation Procedure





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

1. Attach the steering column support assembly (2) to the steering column jacket assembly (3) with 4 TORX(R) head screws (1).

Tighten the screws to 19 N.m (14 lb ft).




2. Install the steering shaft assembly (1) into the steering column support assembly (2).




3. Install the lower shaft bearing assembly.
4. If necessary, install the linear shift assembly.
5. Install the steering column into the vehicle.
6. Install the ignition switch and lock housing assembly. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement.
7. Install the steering wheel onto the steering column.
8. Enable the SIR system.
