P208E
DTC P208E Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Injector StuckDescription
The DEF injector is attached to the mixer chamber that is located between the DPF housing and the SCR catalyst housing. The DEF injector sprays pressurized DEF in the pressure line based on the command from the DEF control module. The DEF control module detects DEF injector sticking by monitoring current change when commanded ON. An expected current change should be detected when the internal valve is operated. The DEF control module detects this DTC if the current change is small compared to an expected current change when the DEF injector is commanded ON.
Condition for Running the DTC
- The battery voltage is between 10 to 16 volts.
- The ignition switch is ON.
- The engine is running.
- The exhaust gas temperature (EGT) 3 is more than 374 °F (190 °C).
- The DEF pressure is more than 51 psi (350 kPa).
Condition for Setting the DTC
- The DEF control module detects that the current change is small when the DEF injector is commanded ON longer than 120 seconds. This indicates a stuck DEF injector.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
- The DEF control module requests the ECM to illuminate the MIL on the second consecutive driving cycle. Refer to DTC Type Definitions for Action Taken When the DTC Sets - Type B. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Type Definitions
- The DEF control module and the ECM apply defaulted warning actions and fail-safe controls. Default Action and Fail-Safe List
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
- Refer to DTC Type Definitions for Conditions for Clearing the DTC - Type A or Type B. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Type Definitions
Diagnostic Aids
CAUTION: Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is highly corrosive to electrical connectors and rubber used in electrical wiring. If any of these components come in contact with DEF, wash the area throughly with warm water and allow to completely dry before reconnection. Make a visual inspection for damage if the connection has been exposed to DEF.
- If an intermittent condition is suspected, Intermittent Conditions
- A short DEF injector control circuit each other will cause this DTC to set.
- Engine coolant is circulated to the DEF injector for cooling. Inspect the engine coolant line for possible cause of DEF injector stuck by heat.
