DEF Control Module Replacement
DEF Control Module ReplacementDescription
The following A - F steps provide an overview procedure to replace and reprogram an DEF control module. Each A - F steps is explained further in this section.
A. Uploading the DEF Control Module Data
The current DEF control module data can be uploaded using the Service Programming System. If the old DEF control module cannot communicate with a scan tool, go to Step B. Follow the Isuzu Diagnostic Service System (IDSS) onscreen instructions under Controller Programming -- Diesel Exhaust Fluid Control Module -- Software and Calibrations -- Replace and Reprogram Controller. IDSS will AUTOMATICALLY upload the DEF control data from the old DEF control module.
B. Removal and Installation
Removal Procedure
1. Turn OFF the ignition until scan tool communication is interrupted.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the radiator grille.
4. Remove the DEF control module bracket nut (3).
5. Remove the DEF control module bracket (4).
6. Disconnect the DEF control module harness connectors.
7. Remove the DEF control module fixing bolts (2).
8. Remove the DEF control module (1).
Installation Procedure
9. Install the DEF control module (1).
10. Tighten the DEF control module fixing bolts (2).
DEF Control Module Fixing Bolts
Tightening torque: 10 N.m (87 lb-in)
11. Connect the DEF control module harness connectors.
12. Install the DEF control module bracket (4).
13. Tighten the DEF control module bracket nut (3).
DEF Control Module Bracket Nut
Tightening torque: 20 N.m (14 lb-ft)
14. Connect the negative battery cable.
C. Programming the DEF Control Module
Program the latest software and calibrations into the new DEF control module using the Service Programming System. Follow the IDSS onscreen instructions to programming the DEF control module.
D. Downloading the DEF Control Module Data
The transfer of data from the old DEF control module to the new DEF control module is AUTOMATICALLY performed by IDSS after the programming event. If the old DEF control module could not communicate with IDSS, proceed to Step E.
E. Data Reset the DEF Control Module
If the old DEF control module could not communicate with IDSS, reset the DEF Control Module Data using a scan tool. This is NOT needed if the old DEF control module could communicate with IDSS.
F. Perform the DPF Normal Regeneration
If the old DEF control module could not communicate with the scan tool, perform a DPF normal regeneration using a scan tool. Follow the IDSS on-screen instructions. This is NOT needed if the old DEF control module could communicate with IDSS.
NOTICE: If the regeneration is not completed successfully, appropriate SCR control cannot be performed and abnormal odors may be induced due to ammonia slip.
