Removal and Installation
Removal
1. Raise vehicle and remove undercover.
2. Remove steering shaft coupling bolt.
3. Remove both tie rod end cotter pins and castle nuts. Using tool J-21687-1, disconnect tie rod ends from steering knuckles.
4. Disconnect steering gear housing from crossmember.
5. Expand steering shaft coupling and remove assembly.
6. Remove tie rod assemblies from steering gear.
Installation
1. Attach tie rod assemblies to steering gear.
2. Prior to installation of steering gear assembly, set steering gear to high point by positioning front wheels straight ahead with steering wheel centered.
3. Attach steering coupling to steering wheel.
4. Attach steering gear housing to crossmember. Torque bolts to 29 ft. lbs.
5. Install steering shaft coupling bolt. Torque bolt to 19 ft. lbs.
6. Attach both tie rod ends to steering knuckles. Torque castle nuts to 29 ft. lbs. Install new cotter pins.
7. Check and adjust toe-in.
8. Install under cover.
