Lower
Removal
1. Raise vehicle and remove wheel.
2. Remove tie rod end cotter key and castle nut. Using Tool J-21687-1, disconnect tie rod end from steering knuckle.
3. Remove stabilizer bar bolt and grommet assembly from lower control arm.
4. Remove upper brake caliper bolt and slide hose-retaining clip back approximately 1/4-1/2 inch.
5. Remove lower shock absorber bolt and push shock absorber upward.
6. Place spring compressor over upper control arm and let hang.
7. Place support under outer extreme of lower control arm, and loosen lower ball joint castle nut until top of nut is flush with top of ball joint.
8. Using Tool J-26407-1, disconnect the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle.
9. Remove hub assembly and steering knuckle from lower ball joint and secure, with a wire or equivalent, aside.
10. Install spring compressor between first exposed coil of spring and compress spring.
11. Remove support under lower control arm.
12. Remove lower ball joint from control arm, using tools J-9519 as installer and J-9519-4 as receiver.
Installation
1. Install new ball joint in lower control arm using Tools J-9519 as installer and J-9519-4 as receiver. Do not strike ball joint bottom.
2. Place support under outer end of lower control arm.
3. Remove spring compressor.
4. Attach hub assembly and steering knuckle to lower ball joint. Torque castle nut to 72 ft. lbs.
5. Slide hose retaining clip in place and install upper brake caliper bolt. Torque nut to 72 ft. lbs.
6. Install stabilizer bar bolt and grommet assembly to lower control arm. Tighten the nut to the end of the threads on the bolt.
7. Attach tie rod end to steering knuckle. Torque castle nut to 29 ft. lbs. Install new cotter key.
8. Install lower shock absorber bolt. Torque to 29 ft. lbs.
9. Install wheel and torque nuts to 50 ft. lbs.
