Extension Housing, Speedometer Driven Gear & Governor



1. Place a suitable container under extension housing.
2. Remove propeller shaft.
3. Disconnect speedometer cable and remove driven gear.
4. Remove the mounting rubber bolt on center part of rear transmission mount.
5. Remove exhaust pipe bracket.
6. Jack up transmission slightly, so that mounting rubber clears crossmember.
7. Remove 4 bolts securing crossmember and remove crossmember.
8. Remove 6 bolts securing extension housing and slide extension housing off output shaft.
9. Using snap ring pliers, remove speedometer driven gear snap ring and pull out the gear, then remove another snap ring.
10. Raise the governor retaining clip using a screwdriver, then remove the governor assembly from the output shaft.
11. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following: inspect extension housing seal, if necessary replace, using oil seal installer tool J-26508. Install new gasket on extension housing and torque bolts to 19.5-30.4 ft. lbs. Torque 4 rear crossmember bolts to 28.9 ft. lbs.
