Lack of Power & Excessive Fuel Consumption

1. Check air cleaner for restrictions.
a. Clean or replace element as necessary.
2. Check accelerator linkage for binding or twisting.
a. Repair or replace as necessary.
3. Check maximum speed stop bolt and full load adjust bolt seals.
a. Repair as necessary.
b. Check if accelerator control lever is in contact with maximum speed stop bolt.
4. Check exhaust pipe and muffler for restrictions.
a. Repair or replace as necessary.
5. Check fuel system.
a. Check for air in fuel lines, bleed as necessary.
b. Check for collapsed or loose fuel pipes.
c. Check for tank breather restrictions.
d. Check for proper fuel quality.
6. Injection timing.
a. Set injection timing, refer to text under ``Engine.''
7. Faulty injection nozzles.
a. Repair or replace as necessary.
8. Excessive valve clearances.
a. Adjust valves.
9. Low compression.
a. Check compression, repair as necessary.
10. Delivery valves.
a. Check delivery valves for sticking.
11. Injection pump.
a. Readjust or overhaul injection pump.
