Disassembly

Fig. 4 Distributor exploded view.:

Refer to Fig. 4 during disassembly procedure.
1. Remove distributor cap, O-ring and rotor.
2. Remove igniter/signal generator cover.
3. Remove igniter/signal generator attaching screws, then the igniter/signal generator.
4. Remove snap ring, then pull out vacuum advancer.
5. Remove breaker plate attaching screws, then the breaker plate.
6. Pre-drill collar retaining pin using a suitable drill press, then remove pin using suitable punch.
7. Remove collar from governor shaft, then separate governor shaft from distributor housing.
8. Remove two springs from signal rotor, then the signal rotor cap.
9. Remove signal rotor attaching screw and signal rotor from governor shaft.
10. Remove snap rings and two weights.

Inspection

1. Check distributor cap and rotor for cracks and carbon tracks.
2. Check distributor cap center contact for wear. Center contact should be .087 inch or longer.
3. Measure air gap between pickup coil projections using a feeler gauge. If air gap is not between .008-.016 inch, loosen two screws and move igniter until gap is as specified.
4. Turn rotor shaft counterclockwise, then release it. Ensure rotor returns slightly counterclockwise.
