Disassembly and Reassembly
Fig. 1 Exploded view of disc brake.:
Disassembly
1. Remove dust seal ring and the dust seal from each piston.
2. Install clamp J-22429 on mounting half of caliper and remove rim half piston by applying compressed air at the brake line connection.
3. Install clamp J-22429 on rim half of caliper and remove mounting half piston by applying compressed air at the brake line connection.
4. Remove fluid seals from annular grooves in caliper piston bores, Fig. 1. The caliper is of an integral design and cannot be disassembled. The entire caliper assembly should be replaced if brake fluid is found to be leaking from the caliper joint. Never attempt to loosen bridge bolts, since breakage of brake fluid at the mating surface may result.
Inspection
1. Check caliper and adapter plates for distortion or cracking and replace, if necessary.
2. Inspect cylinder bores and pistons for wear, scuffing or corrosion and replace, if necessary.
Assembly
1. Apply special rubber grease (included in caliper seal repair kit) to the seal and cylinder wall, then insert new piston seal into the cylinder. Do not use lubricants other than those included in repair kit.
2. Carefully install piston to bottom of cylinder bore using finger pressure only to avoid scratching cylinder wall, piston or seal.
3. Install dust seal and seal ring.
