Valve Body Assembly

Fig. 1 Accumulator piston holding plate:

1. Drain transmission fluid, then remove oil pan and screen.
2. To prevent accidental removal of accumulator pistons while the valve body is removed, prepare a holding plate as shown in Fig. 1.
3. Remove 17 valve body securing bolts, hold the valve body in place.
4. Lower the valve body slightly, install the holding plate using oil pan bolts to secure it.
5. Disconnect the throttle valve control cable from the throttle cam, then remove the valve body. After removal of the valve body assembly, the accumulator pistons can be removed. Compress fingers at end of the throttle valve cable using a 10 mm socket wrench and disconnect the throttle valve cable from the case, remove the holding plate. Allow pistons to drop out of bores, noting location of pistons and springs.
6. To install, hold the throttle cam in fully raised position and connect the end of throttle valve cable to the slot in the throttle cam. Align valve body manual shift lever pin with manual valve, install and semi-tighten 3 or 4 bolts and remove holding plate.
7. Install remainder of valve body bolts. Torque to 5.8-8.7 ft. lbs.
8. To complete installation reverse disassembly procedure.
