Engine - Lean Stumble

BULLETIN NUMBER ISSUE DATE GROUP
SB86-02-007 September 19, 1986 FUEL
VEHICLES AFFECTED

1983 - 1986 Impulse (JR) non-turbocharged models before VIN G0908372 (production date June 1986).

SERVICE INFORMATION

Affected vehicles may exhibit a lean stumble caused by a build-up of fuel/combustion deposits in the induction system. Under certain circumstances, the installation of a recalibrated I-TEC controller may reduce or eliminate this condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Determine if the specific vehicle meets the following conditions:

a. The fuel injectors have been tested and cleaned according to Service Bulletin SB86-02-005.
b. If the condition exists during cold operation, verify that a revised EGR thermal vacuum valve has been installed. Refer to Service Bulletin SB86-03- 001.

c. Vehicle odometer reading is greater than 8,000 miles.

2. If the vehicle meets these conditions, install an Ftype I-TEC controller as described in the appropriate Workshop Manual.

CAUTION

Do not clean the cylinder head or induction system at the time the F-type I-TEC controller is installed. If the engine is cleaned at a later date (for example, during a valve job), an E2-type controller (part No. 8- 94404-150-0) must be installed.
