Idle Mixture Adjustment

1. Apply parking brake and block drive wheels, then place transaxle in neutral if equipped with manual transaxle or park if equipped with automatic transaxle.
2. Remove concealment plug from carburetor. (See CONCEALMENT PLUG REMOVAL).
3. Lightly seat idle mixture adjusting screw, then back it out three turns from fully seated position if equipped with manual transaxle or two turns from fully seated if equipped with automatic transaxle. Use caution not to over tighten idle mixture adjusting screw.
4. Start engine and allow to reach normal operating temperature, then connect suitable tachometer. Air cleaner should be installed and choke valve should be open.
5. On models equipped with A/C, place A/C in the off position.
6. On models equipped with power steering, place front wheels in straight ahead position.
7. On all models, turn off lights and all accessories, then wait until cooling fan stops rotating.
8. Disconnect and plug distributor vacuum line from carburetor, canister purge line, EGR valve and ITC valve vacuum line.
9. Disconnect idle set connector, then adjust throttle adjusting screw to 750 RPM on models equipped with manual transaxle or 1000 RPM on models equipped with automatic transaxle.
10. Connect suitable dwell meter between duty monitor and ground. Set dwell meter to the four cylinder scale.
11. Turn idle mixture adjusting screw to set dwell angle to 45°, then adjust throttle adjusting screw to 750 RPM on models equipped with manual transaxle or 1000 RPM on models equipped with automatic transaxle.
12. Connect idle set connector, then check idle speed. If idle speed is not satisfactory, adjust using the throttle adjusting screw.
13. On models equipped with A/C, proceed as follows:
a. Turn A/C on and place temperature control lever to "MAX COLD" position. Ensure blower is on high position.
b. Set fast idle speed to 850 RPM on models with manual transaxle or 980 RPM on models equipped with automatic transaxle using the FICD adjusting screw at tip of carburetor throttle lever.
