Distributor Replace
1. Rotate engine until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC on compression stroke.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove distributor cap with spark plug wires attached.
4. Remove all electrical connectors to distributor.
5. Scribe an alignment mark on distributor housing and engine in line with rotor segment, then remove distributor attaching bolts and distributor.
6. Reverse procedure to install. Ensure that rotor segment is aligned with scribed mark on distributor housing and that mark on distributor housing is aligned with mark on engine. Rotate rotor slightly in both directions to facilitate smooth engagement of distributor shaft into oil pump drive shaft.
7. Install distributor attaching bolt, then start engine and check timing. Adjust as necessary.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Mark, then disconnect spark plug wires, electrical connector(s) and vacuum line(s) from distributor assembly.
3. Mark position of distributor assembly in block and rotor on distributor, then remove rotor.
4. Remove distributor hold-down bolt, then carefully pull distributor assembly upward from engine.
5. Reverse procedure to install.
