Transmission Replace
1. Disconnect battery ground cable and throttle valve control cable.
2. Remove transmission fluid dipstick.
3. Raise and support vehicle, drain transmission fluid.
4. Remove starter, exhaust pipe bracket and propeller shaft.
5. Disconnect speedometer cable and shift control rod.
6. Disconnect oil cooler lines by loosening nuts on the transmission side. Move the lines closer to the body to prevent damage.
7. Remove converter housing cover and engine under cover.
8. Remove converter mounting bolts and rear transmission mount bolt.
9. Raise engine and transmission assembly with a suitable jack. Remove rear crossmember.
10. Lower engine and transmission assembly slightly, remove the converter housing nuts and bolts and remove transmission towards rear of vehicle. Use caution to avoid dropping converter.
11. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following: torque converter housing nuts and bolts to 28.9 ft. lbs. and torque converter bolts to 13.7 ft. lbs.
