DTC 54
1. Disconnect power transistor electrical connector.
2. Disconnect high tension cable between ignition coil and distributor at distributor side, then hold exposed end of cable approximately .24 inch from ground.
3. Turn ignition switch to the ON position.

4. Connect positive side of a 1.5 volt battery to Y terminal of the power transistor and negative side to ground, Fig. 56.
5. Disconnect battery lead and check that spark jumps across gap between end of high tension cable and ground. Repeat test several times.
6. If spark is not present, replace power transistor together with bracket. If spark is present, proceed to step 7.

7. Check resistance of power transistor circuit as shown in Fig. 57 then compare with specifications in chart, Fig. 60
8. If measured resistance is not as specified in chart, repair or replace defective parts.
