Fig. 22 Throttle position sensor circuit identification:
Fig. 23 Throttle position sensor & TCS circuit resistance value chart:
1. Check for short, open or terminal connection of harness between terminals of TCS and throttle position sensor, Fig. 22, then compare with specifications in chart Fig. 23.
2. Correct or replace harness if necessary.
3. Test throttle position sensor as follows: a. Turn starter switch to the ON position.
Fig. 24 Removing throttle position sensor water shield cover:
Fig. 25 Testing throttle position sensor contacts:
b. Remove water shield cover as shown in Fig. 24.
c. Using a suitable voltmeter, position positive probe of meter in white color harness. The throttle position sensor has three leads, red for 5V power source, white for output and black for ground, Fig. 25.
d. Check voltage between white color harness and black color harness, Fig. 25. Ensure that 5V ± .5V is obtained at red color harness before checking white and black color harness.
e. Check voltage of idle contact switch and full contact switch on throttle position sensor, Fig. 25. Idle contact switch should be higher than 4V and full contact switch should be less than 2V. Ensure difference of idle contact and full contact 3.6 ± 1V.
