For control arms, steering knuckle and coil spring service, refer to Fig. 2. Note the following:
1. When removing rod end, use tool No. J-21687-02 to secure rod end.
2. When removing steering knuckle, proceed as follows:
a. Compress coil springs using tool No. J-33992 or equivalent to disconnect the upper and lower link balls from the steering knuckle.

b. Set guide link plate 4, Fig. 3 with its tool number facing outward. The guide link plate has a stamped mark R for right or L for left in addition to the tool number.
Fig. 7 Installing hook 1 onto third coil from top of spring:
c. Set hook 1, Fig. 4 onto the third coil from the top of spring.
d. Set plate to lower link A using alignment hole in guide link plate 4. Install a suitable chain through one coil nearest top of spring and connect other end to the upper control arm to prevent spring from coming out.

e. Tighten compressor tool screw 6, Fig. 5, after tightening rod 3 on each side evenly.
f. Disconnect upper link B.

g. Compress coil spring until top end releases from cushion C, Fig. 6 at center of upper link B, then remove coil spring.

h. Remove lower link bolt D, Fig. 6, then remove coil spring together with lower link A.

i. Loosen rod 3, Fig. 6 on each side alternately and evenly, then separate coil spring from lower link.
3. During installation, torque upper link bolt to 44-50 ft. lbs. Torque lower link bolt to 58-65 ft. lbs. Torque upper link to steering knuckle nuts to 54-65 ft. lbs.
