This Service Bulletin contains the correct testing procedure for the air regulator.
When fast idle speed is not obtainable:
1. Disconnect the air regulator harness at the connector.
2. Measure the resistance across the air regulator terminals.
TRANSMISSION/ STANDARD
MODELS PRODUCTION DATE RESISTANCE (ohms)
Impulse (JR) M/T 5/87 and before 38-42
Impulse (JR) A/T 9/83 and before 38-42
Impulse (JR) M/T 5/87 and later 48-52
Impulse (JR) A/T 9/83 and later 48-52
Trooper II (KT) All models 7/87 to 8/87 38-42
Trooper II (KT) All models 8/87 and later 45-50
Pickup (TF) and
All models 45-50
Amigo (TC)
If the measured resistance is not within the specified range, replace the air regulator assembly.
3. Start the engine and check for presence of voltage at the connector.
- If voltage is not present, check the wiring harness leading to the air regulator and correct if necessary.
- If voltage is present, replace the air regulator assembly.
4. Reconnect the air regulator harness.
