Turbocharger Operation/Maintenance
1. Turbocharged engines generally require more frequent engine oil changes, ideally every 3,000 miles or six months, whichever comes first. More frequent oil change is needed if the vehicle is operated under severe driving conditions, such asrough or dusty roads. For best durability, use only oil labeled SF or SG. SE grade oil may also be used. Refer to the appropriate Owner's Manual for specific oil recommendations.
2. Refer to the appropriate Owner's Manual for engine start-up and shut-down procedures. Turbocharged engines generally require normal oil pressure to be established before running the engine above idle. Idle a turbocharged engine for a few minutes before shut-down to allow the turbocharger to cool down, especially after driving at high speeds. Turbocharger bearing failure will result from operating the turbocharger without a sufficient oil supply.
