Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Drain transmission oil.
4. Remove gearshift knob, then the shift lever cover assembly and the console assembly.
5. Remove front exhaust pipe.
6. Disconnect propeller shaft from transmission.
7. Disconnect speedometer cable at transmission.
8. Disconnect clutch slave cylinder.
9. Remove transmission case undercover.
10. Position suitable jack under transmission, remove rear engine attaching nuts, and lower transmission slightly, then remove quadrant box cover to transmission attaching bolts.
11. Disconnect all electrical connectors at transmission.
12. Remove control box assembly.
13. Remove transmission to engine attaching bolts, being careful not to drop starter.
14. Lower transmission and remove from under vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. When installing transmission, position transmission with speedometer cable fitting face turned downward and slide assembly forward, guiding gear shaft into pilot bearing.
b. Install quadrant box cover with new gasket and tighten attaching bolts before installing rear engine mount.
c. When installing propeller shaft, install bolts from extension shaft side and torque to 18-22 ft. lbs.
d. Install drain plug, then remove filler plug and fill transmission with suitable fluid. Torque drain and filler plugs to 22-36 ft. lbs.
e. Torque rear engine mount attaching nuts to 14-22 ft. lbs. and bend up washer tabs.
