Maintenance: Service and Repair
The check engine lamp will be illuminated when the ignition switch is in the ON position with engine not operating. When engine is started, the Check Engine lamp should go OFF. If lamp remains ON, a code has been stored by the Electronic Control Module (ECM). After diagnosis and repair, place ignition switch in OFF position, then clear codes stored in the ECM memory by removing the Emission or ECM fuse, located in the fuse box on the instrument panel lefthand side, for approximately 10 seconds on all except 1988-89 models. On 1988-89 models, remove the battery ground cable from battery for at least 20 seconds.
