Shift Light: Description and Operation

Shift Indicator Light:

The Shift Indicator Light advises the driver to shift to a higher gear at an appropriate time. The light is automatically shut off when the shift is made. To activate the shift indicator light, the ECM calculates engine rpm, engine load and coolant temperature. The light will activate whenever all of these conditions are met:

1. Coolant temperature is above -45°C (-49°F).
2. Throttle valve in any position other than idle.
3. Engine load (measured by the throttle position sensor) does not exceed a predetermined value as shown on the chart.
4. Transaxle in any forward speed except 5th gear. One of the two transaxle switches (1st / 2nd or 3rd / 4th) must be on.
5. Clutch switch "ON" and clutch engaged.
