Coasting Fuel Cut-Off System

Fuel Cut-Off System Check:

SYSTEM OPERATIONAL CHECK

1. Start engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
2. Connect a tachometer.
3. Connect a DVM between the two wires leading to the slow cut solenoid.
4. Increase engine speed to greater than 3000 rpm and release throttle.
5. Note voltage as engine speed decreases.
(a) Engine speed greater than 2000 rpm and decelerating, should read 0 volts.
(b) As engine speed drops below 2000 rpm, voltage reading should change to battery voltage.

FUEL CUT SOLENOID CHECK

1. Key "off".
2. Disconnect electrical connector from fuel cut solenoid.
3. Apply 12 volts to one terminal of solenoid and ground the other to energize the solenoid. A "click" should be heard when the solenoid energizes.
4. Re-connect solenoid, start engine and idle.
5. Disconnect fuel cut solenoid with engine idling. Engine should begin to stumble and/or die. This indicates the solenoid is cutting off fuel to the idle circuit when not energized, and is operating normally.
