Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
1. Scribe aligning marks on hood hinges, then remove hood.2. Disconnect negative battery cable.
3. Disconnect inhibitor switch and kick-down electrical connectors from transaxle.
4. Disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle.
5. Disconnect ground cable from transaxle.
6. Disconnect shift cable from transaxle.
7. Disconnect, then cap transaxle fluid lines.
8. Disconnect vacuum hose from vacuum diaphragm.
9. Remove air duct.
10. Raise and support vehicle.
11. Remove both front wheel and tire assemblies.
12. Disconnect right control arm at the steering knuckle.
13. Remove left tension rod with bracket.
14. Disconnect both tie rod ends at steering knuckle.
15. Disconnect both driveshaft assemblies from transaxle.
16. Support engine using a suitable engine hoist.
17. Disconnect engine mounts and remove center support.
18. Remove three upper transaxle to engine attaching bolts.
19. Remove flywheel dust cover.
20. Remove converter to flywheel attaching bolts.
21. Position a suitable jack under transaxle assembly then carefully remove transaxle from vehicle.
22. Reverse procedure to install. Torque transaxle to engine attaching bolts to 56 ft. lbs. Torque converter to flywheel attaching bolts to 30 ft. lbs., center support retaining bolts to 56 ft. lbs., engine mounting bolts to 61 ft. lbs., tie rod ends to 42 ft. lbs. and tension rod to 48 ft. lbs.
