Engine: Service and Repair

1. Scribe reference marks in hood hinge area, then remove hood.
2. Disconnect battery cable.
3. Remove undercover, then drain cooling system.
4. Remove air cleaner to throttle valve air duct.
5. On turbocharged models, remove air cleaner to turbocharger, turbocharger to intercooler and intercooler to throttle valve air duct hoses.
6. On all models, disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses.
7. On automatic transmission models, disconnect and cap transmission fluid cooler lines.
8. On all models, remove fan blade and pulley attaching nuts, then radiator stay and mounting nuts.
9. Remove radiator and fan blade together.
10. Remove air cleaner and on turbocharged models, remove intercooler.
11. Carefully discharge refrigerant from A/C system.
12. Disconnect receiver to A/C line, then the compressor hose.
13. Remove condenser assembly and position aside.
14. Mark then disconnect all electrical connectors, cables, vacuum hoses and fuel lines from engine.
15. Remove left and right engine mounts.
16. On manual transmissions, remove gear shift knob, front console assembly and gear shift lever boot.
17. On all models, disconnect exhaust pipe at output flange.
18. On manual transmission models, remove clutch slave cylinder and position aside.
19. On all models, disconnect speedometer cable from transmission.
20. On automatic transmission models, disconnect shift linkage at link joint.
21. On all models, disconnect propeller shaft from transmission. Cap transmission output shaft to prevent fluid leakage.
22. Lift engine slightly, then remove rear engine mounting bracket bolts and bracket.
23. Install suitable engine lifting equipment onto engine.
24. Remove engine and transmission assembly from engine compartment.
25. Separate engine from transmission.
26. Reverse procedure to install.
