Ignition Switch: Service and Repair
1. Disarm airbag system, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair if equipped.2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then cover connector end with electrical tape.
3. Remove horn pad or airbag module attaching bolts, then the horn pad or airbag module, disconnecting electrical connector. Place airbag module on a flat surface with the urethane cover facing up.
4. Remove steering wheel retaining bolt and washer.
5. Using puller tool J-29752 or equivalent, remove steering wheel assembly.
6. On 1989 models, remove front console assembly, radio assembly, I/P undercover, hood lock release lever, left knee pad and lower steering column cover.
7. On all models, remove turn signal switch retaining screws, then the turn signal switch.
8. Remove steering shaft retaining ring, then the washer and spring assembly.
9. Remove ignition switch retaining bolts and the ignition switch.
10. Reverse procedure to install.
