SERVICE INFORMATION
If the rear hatch is difficult to open on affected vehicles, additional rear hatch lock lubrication and hatch rubber stopper adjustment are required.
To provide easier rear hatch release, follow the instructions in this Service Bulletin for rear hatch lock lubrication and hatch rubber stopper adjustment.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Apply additional lubrication to the rear hatch locks as follows:
a. Remove the rear hatch lock and bell crank assemblies (both sides) as described in the appropriate Workshop Manual.

b. Apply ThreeBond 1901 antiseize lubricant (or equivalent) to each lock, in the area shown in Figure 1.
Attachment A of this Service Bulletin contains the Material Safety Data Sheet for ThreeBond 1901.
c. Reinstall the rear hatch lock and bell crank assemblies as described in the appropriate Workshop Manual.
2. Adjust the rear hatch rubber stoppers as follows:
a. Remove the rear combination lamp access covers (both sides).
b. Turn the rear hatch rubber stoppers so that they are fully flush with the hatch.
c. With the hatch open, place a strip of paper on the body area where the rubber stopper meets the tailgate, on both sides.
d. Close the hatch and pull out the paper strips, to test rubber stopper contact with the tailgate. Adjust the stoppers 1/4 turn at a time, until there is a slight drag against the paper when it is pulled out with the hatch closed.
e. Reinstall the rear combination lamp access covers.
