Transaxle

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then scribe hood positions for hood alignment during installation.
2. Remove hood, then battery and battery tray.
3. Drain transaxle fluid into a suitable container.
4. Remove air duct and air cleaner assembly.
5. Disconnect wire connectors, ground cable and engine wiring harness clamp from transaxle assembly.
6. Disconnect the breather hose from the transaxle, then ignition coil ground cable and ignition cable.
7. Remove battery bracket and ignition coil.
8. Disconnect the shift cable from the transaxle.
9. Support engine with engine brace or equivalent.
10. Raise and support vehicle, then disconnect speedometer cable.
11. Remove front wheel and tire assemblies, then engine undercovers.
12. Disconnect transaxle cooler lines from radiator.
13. Remove lower ball joint pinch bolts, then disconnect ball joints from steering knuckle.
14. Using tie rod end removal tool No. J-21687-02 or equivalent, disconnect tie rod ends from steering knuckle.
15. Disengage both drive axles from the transaxle.
16. Support engine with engine brace or equivalent if not done previously.
17. Disconnect front exhaust pipe from manifold.
18. Remove torque rod and bracket assembly, then left transaxle mount.
19. Remove engine stiffener, then flywheel inspection cover.
20. Support transaxle with transmission jack, then remove flywheel-to-converter retaining bolts.
21. Remove transaxle-to-engine retaining bolts, then lower transaxle assembly from vehicle.
22. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque transaxle-to-engine retaining bolts to 69 ft. lbs.
b. Torque flywheel-to-converter retaining bolts to 33 ft. lbs.
c. Torque engine stiffener to 28 ft. lbs.
d. Torque center beam-to-body (front side) retaining bolts to 37 ft. lbs.
e. Torque center beam (rear side) retaining bolts to 58 ft. lbs.
f. Torque rear mount-to-transaxle retaining bolt to 76 ft. lbs.
g. Torque left mount-to-transaxle retaining bolt to 38 ft. lbs.
h. Torque left mount-to-body retaining bolts to 51 ft. lbs.
i. Torque torque rod stud-to-transaxle retaining bolt to 71 ft. lbs.
j. Torque torque rod bracket-to-engine retaining bolts to 28 ft. lbs.
k. Torque torque rod-to-center beam retaining bolts to 51 ft. lbs.
l. Torque torque rod-to-transaxle retaining bolt to 95 ft. lbs.
m. Torque exhaust pipe to 49 ft. lbs.
n. Torque tie rod ends to 29 ft. lbs.
o. Torque ball joint pinch bolts to 48 ft. lbs.
p. Torque wheel and tire assemblies to 87 ft. lbs.
