Shift Interlock: Description and Operation
With the engine running or the ignition switch in the ON position and the inhibitor switch in the "P" position, the shift lever cannot be shifted from "P" to another position unless the brake pedal is depressed. A signal is sent through the park switch to the shift lock control unit and the shift lock solenoid energizes preventing the shift lever from being moved. When the brake pedal is depressed, a signal is sent to the shift lock control unit. The control unit then de-energizes the shift lock solenoid and allows the shift lever to be moved.
