Transfer Case: Description and Operation

The transaxle and transfer can be classified into a transmission system and a transfer system. The transmission system has the same functional structure as that of the transaxle for two wheel drive vehicles. The transfer system is composed of a center differential with a viscous clutch, a front differential and transfer carriers (countergear, ring gear and hypoid pinion gear) to transfer the driving power to a rear differential.
