Parking Brake

PARKING BRAKE
1. Release the parking brake lever.
2. Adjust the length of the cable by turning the adjusting nuts.
3. Tighten the adjusting nut. The parking lever stroke is normal if the lever comes within 7 to 8 notches when pulled with a force of 66 lbs.

REAR DRUM BRAKES
1. Move parking brake handle to its fully released position.
2. Loosen the adjusting nut and the locknut. Parking cable must be loosened sufficiently.
3. Start engine, and apply the brake pedal firmly. Apply brakes several times.
4. Stop engine, Then raise and support vehicle.
5. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
6. Measure the inner diameter of drum, then diameter of brake shoes. Clearance should be .0098-.0157 inch. If incorrect, repair or replace the brake auto-adjusters as necessary.
7. Firmly grasp the second relay lever rod. Rotate the adjusting nut until all slack disappears from the cable. Tighten the adjusting nut.
8. Pull the parking brake handle to its fully set position three or four times.
9. If the parking brake is properly adjusted, the traveling range between the fully disengaged position and fully engaged position will be between 9 and 11 notches of the parking brake handle ratchet.
10. If the travel range is not as specified, repeat Steps 1 through 7.
11. Check the rear wheel by turning by hand for smooth rotation without brake drag.
