SUBJECT: ADJUSTMENT OF DRIVE BELTS
MODEL: XJ6 & XJ-S HE
As part of the emission regulations, any adjustment of emission related drive belts required up to 30,000 miles is considered to be the responsibility of the vehicle manufacturer.
All drive belts should be checked and adjusted as needed as part of the 1,000 mile service. At all other maintenance services, all drive belts should be checked and adjusted as needed as part of the normal vehicle maintenance inspection.
Please add these operations to the list of 1,000 mile and periodic maintenance service schedules. A new publication detailing these services will be issued shortly. The following repair operation times are applicable for any subsequent air pump adjustment:

JCI will Accept warranty claims for adjustment of the air injection pump belt on XJ6 and XJ-S models up to 30,000 miles.
Drive belts should be checked with a suitable belt gauge, such as Borroughs or Kricket, designed to measure the deflection force.
Drive Belt Tension
3/8" belts Initial load (New Belt) 60 lbs. Retention 50 lbs.
1/2" belts Initial load (New Belt) 120 lbs. Retention 100 lbs.
