Subject: Ignition Amplifier Replacements
Models: All
We would take this opportunity to advise that the early (4EM) Distributor Amplifier Assembly fitted to Jaguar, Rover and Triumph vehicles is not to be used for warranty purposes. The older Distributor Amplifier Assembly which was an integral unit, rather than the current constant energy type which is a multicomponent part, has not been available through JRT for several months.
Checks against recent claims have shown that where the older type part was claimed, it has been sourced from other areas. Part number wise, the older integral Distributor Amplifier Assembly may be identified by a Lucas number starting with 54. The multi-component constant energy replacement kit has a Lucas part number starting with 60.
All Jaguar Series III vehicles have come Factory equipped with constant energy units and many of the later production runs of other models were also so equipped. In any case, where a vehicle is already fitted with a constant energy type unit and there is an apparent failure, only the defective component should be replaced rather than fitting an entire kit.
